Spiritual Perspectives on Poverty

This panel, a part of CWF’s 2017 Symposium titled “Encountering the Poor: A Feminine Lens on the Problem of Poverty”, featured Pia de Solenni, Associate Dean at Augustine Institute, and Amber Lapp, Research Fellow with the Institute for Family Studies. Dr. de Solenni, in her talk Spiritual Poverty Amidst a Materialist Culture, describes how the West is a different kind of poverty – not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality. In Let the Poor Evangelize Us, Lapp describes how fostering friendship across class lines is necessary, not only for the benefit of the poor, but for the benefit of those who are materially rich but spiritually impoverished.
